ITREB – BUI UPDATES

GRADE 2

In Grade 2 each class was exciting, as there were lots of stories to tell and hear from our kids, from Book 1 (growing and learning) we had a great time hearing the story of “A Bundle of sticks” we even did it practically which was a great lesson of unity and one Jamat.

In book 2 “A Journey Into Our Past” We went through the cities in which our Imam stayed we went from place to place where Hoopoe “the bird of wisdom” took us, and finally she took us to the BUI classes where kids were learning about our past to the time of Prophet Muhammed and Hazrat Ali, since the time of Mawlana Ali, we have always had an Imam to guide us. It was so much fun to know our past

From book -3 “Murids of Imam as Zaman” We visited many places where our Ismaili family brothers and sisters are living, we learned how Mawlana Hazir Imam guides the Jamat, it is our Imam who united us as one community all over the world our Imam guides The Jamal to make spiritual and material progress.

GRADE 3

This term, grade 3 students learnt different forms of art used in various crafts. One form of art that we explored was calligraphy and how Muslims used different forms and techniques of calligraphy to produce art. We looked at the Muslim calligraphy and calligraphy in today’s time and how they’re different styles. Students then got a chance to make their own calligraphy styles and design art. Students enjoyed learning about Muslim art and how art has evolved over time. Furthermore, grade 3 students visited the Ithnasheri Mosque and explored the architectural elements of a mosque and how Muslim art is incorporated into the building from different patterns and colours to calligraphy styles whereby learners were able to make connections to their learning.

Grade 4

Grade 4 students explored the topic of “Allah is the Light of the heavens and the earth” from Ta’lim Book 3 called “This Mysterious Universe.”  This topic is connected with Sura Al-Nur which strengthens our faith and belief that Allah is the light of the heavens and the earth.  This is the special light that Allah has given us, it is a light which guides us.

As Shia Muslims we believe that this is the Light of Imamat.  We call it the Nur of Imamat.  “Nur” means “Light.”  The Nur of Imamat is with the Ahl al-Bayt, the Imams from the Prophets family.  This Light was with our first Imam, Mawlana Ali and it is now with Mawlana Hazar Imam.  Our Imam guides us with His Nur.

It is Hazar Imam who is our spiritual guide and helps us to understand our faith better.  It is the Imam of the time, as the spiritual guide, who lights the Murid’s path towards a greater intellectual and spiritual understanding of the faith.

Students prepared, designed and colored different lampshades which were unique to reinforce their learning connecting it with Sura Al-Nur (The Holy Quran: 24:35).  The lamp shades were then placed on one lamp with one light.   Just as students’ lamp shades were unique, our physical bodies are different.  We are all of different shapes, sizes, colors, intellectual capacity etc… Just like the lamp shades were placed on one lamp with one light, similarly, the essence of our soul is one.   We are all created by Allah and we all have one soul.  We are all one and we are guided the Noor of Allah.

Grade 5

Reflecting on our incredible year in grade five, our journey began with an engaging exploration of the Fatimid Caliphs, documented in a creative scrapbook. Rehan’s quick wit and Alyshbah’s insightful questions set the tone for an exciting start. Saahil’s enthusiasm and Saleeha’s artistic flair brought our historical investigations to life, while Liyana’s thoughtful reflections and Jayden’s inquisitive nature deepened our understanding.

As we ventured through the “tunnel of service” in our Ismaili Jamat, exploring the AKDN institutions, Qais’s perspective on community service inspired us all, and Azaan’s keen observations highlighted the significance of our findings. Amaal’s empathy and Ariya’s cheerful participation added warmth to our discussions, and Arva’s analytical mind helped us grasp complex ideas with ease.

Our scientific journey, exploring Allah’s diverse creations, was enriched by Kaysan’s endless curiosity and Keeyan’s keen eye for detail. Tauqir’s imaginative ideas and Zaeem’s passion for discovery made our explorations truly engaging. Ruqaiyya’s thoughtful contributions and Ayaan’s enthusiasm for learning brought a dynamic energy to our class. Aahil’s inquisitive spirit and Simran’s collaborative approach fostered a supportive learning environment, while Kaiser’s excitement and Nastaran’s meticulousness helped us appreciate the wonders of science. Finally, Azmat’s creativity and zest for knowledge added a unique flavor to our shared experiences.

None of this would have been possible without the invaluable support of Miss Seelena and Sir Amaan. Their dedication, patience, and ability to manage our inquisitive explorers ensured that each student thrived and felt encouraged to delve deeper into their interests. Their guidance and enthusiasm made every learning moment memorable, helping us navigate our journey of discovery with confidence and joy. This year has been a remarkable voyage of learning, bonding, and growth, made extraordinary by the contributions and support of each student and our dedicated teachers.

Grade 6

Grade 6: Exploring cultural diversity and understanding challenges through the book: People and Places

We embarked on a wonderful journey through the book “People and Places,” which offered us a glimpse into the vibrant cultural tapestry of six regions around the world with a significant Muslim presence. Our exploration allowed us to learn about the customs, traditions, and lifestyles of communities in the Middle East, North Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, and West Africa. Through the pages of this book, we were transported to different corners of the globe, where we discovered the beauty and uniqueness of each region’s cultural heritage. From the bustling markets of Marrakesh to the serene mosques of Istanbul, we marveled at the diversity and richness of Muslim cultures that have flourished throughout history.

In addition to our exploration of cultures, we also had a guest speaker, Hosnoro, from Tajikistan. Hosnoro enlightened us with a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by our community. Her insightful presentation shed light on the unique perspectives and experiences of the Ismaili community, providing valuable insights

Hosnoro’s engaging discussion encouraged empathy, compassion, and awareness of the challenges confronting today’s world. By bringing a global perspective to our students, she inspired a spirit of inclusivity, understanding, and unity within our BUI community. Knowledge and insights gained from Hosnoro’s presentation will resonate with us.
