ITREB FOR TANZANIA EASTERN – BAIT UL ILM PRIMARY 2024

Grade 1

During Term 1, Grade 1 students explored key concepts of faith through the themes “Allah the Creator” and “The Wonderful World of Allah.” The lessons focused on advancing their understanding of Islamic principles, encouraging the practice of faith in daily life, and nurturing conduct aligned with Islamic ethics.

Students learned that as Muslims, they believe in one God, Allah, who is Al-Ahad (The One) and Al-Khaliq (The Creator) of everything around them, including themselves. They explored Allah’s presence in all creation and recognized Him as Ar-Rahman (The Most Kind) and Ar-Rahim (The Most Merciful), who cares for all living beings.

The teachings emphasized the importance of being kind, caring, and responsible stewards of Allah’s creation. Students were also guided to reflect on the significance of prayer as a way to remember Allah and express gratitude. These lessons aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and a strong connection to faith in young hearts.

Grade 2

They learned the theme of unity from Book 1 (THE ISMAILI MUSLIMS). They did an activity where they connected the parts of the world map with the help of a puzzle.

They discussed the spiritual children of Mawlana Hazar Imam. Despite their diverse languages, cultures, and backgrounds, they are united as one community.

To bring this to life, they watched a video highlighting the global Ismaili Jamat, and the students thoroughly enjoyed creating puzzles representing “One World” from the Diamond Jubilee. Through this activity, they connected with the project works of Mawlana Hazar Imam.

Grade 2 also actively participated in the Shake-Out drill, collaborating with the Safety and Security team. The guidance provided during this drill was also shared and implemented in the Bait-ul-Ilm class, enabling the young murids to learn and understand the necessary actions during a shake-out.

Grade 3

They completed Book One: Prophets of Allah, which introduces the lives of three of God’s messengers: Prophet Noah, Prophet Abraham, and Prophet Moses. Stories and teachings of these prophets acquainted the children with the concept of prophethood and revelation.

They are now engaged in Book Two: Festivals and Celebrations, exploring the special days that they encounter in their everyday lives. It makes them aware of some festivals that are celebrated by all Ismaili families.

Grade 4

This year, Grade 4 content is based on the events that took place in the lives of Prophet Muhammad and Hazrat Ali while they were in Makkah. The students learn of the Prophet’s hijrah to Medina, the community of believers that emerged after the hijrah, the struggle of the Muslims against the Makkans, the central role of Hazrat Ali during this critical period, and the final victory of the Muslims over those who were opposed to Islam.

Grade 5

Through the Eyes of Grade 5: Discovering the Fatimid World

Over the last six months, Saturdays have been a vibrant journey into the heart of the Fatimid era with my incredible Grade 5 explorers. Each week, they have brought history to life, diving into the stories, landscapes, and traditions that shaped a fascinating chapter in our Muslim history.

They began their adventure at the Mediterranean Sea, imagining the ships that connected cultures and carried treasures from distant lands. The students’ imaginations soared as they debated what it must have felt like to sail the vast waters—a mix of excitement and seasickness, as one student humorously pointed out!

Next, they followed the currents of the River Nile, the lifeline of Egypt. The students folded origami boats and gave them quirky nicknames, then explored how the river nourished both the fields and the souls of the people who lived along its banks.

The city of Cairo then welcomed them with open arms. They strolled its lively streets in their minds, learning about its bustling neighborhoods, vibrant bazaars, and the incredible architecture that made it a hub of culture and commerce.

The students’ favorite stop? The bazaar, of course! They imagined themselves as merchants selling spices, fabrics, or perfumes, and even came up with creative bartering techniques—one claimed they would swap silk for a week’s worth of sweets!

Their journey wouldn’t be complete without visiting the serene beauty of the mosques. They explored their architectural brilliance and discussed the importance of spirituality in daily life during the Fatimid period.

Lastly, they marveled at the grandeur of the palaces, picturing the lives of the Imam-Caliphs and their courts. The students’ imaginations ran wild here—some envisioned golden thrones, while others thought the palaces might have secret passages leading to treasure rooms!

Through every topic, the students have shown incredible curiosity, creativity, and humor. Their insights and enthusiasm have made their Saturdays a highlight of the week and a journey the teacher will cherish.

Here’s to many more adventures as they continue exploring history, one story at a time!

Grade 6

In a spirited pursuit of cultural understanding, our Grade 6 students recently embarked on a vibrant journey called “TASTE OF TRADITIONS.” This session’s focus was all about celebrating the wonderful diversity that thrives within their classroom walls.

During this delightful event, each student brought an item representing their unique culture. From tantalizing traditional dishes to cherished cultural artifacts, their classroom transformed into a colorful mosaic of traditions. The result? An enlightening and joyous experience where our students reveled in the beauty of their diverse backgrounds.

With their enthusiastic and vibrant learners, the event blossomed into a festival of traditions and stories. Each item brought in had its own tale, fostering a deeper appreciation and understanding of the rich cultures that make up their community. The “TASTE OF TRADITIONS” activity was more than just sharing food and items; it was about weaving connections and learning from one another’s experiences.

The students’ excitement was infectious as they explored different customs and traditions. It was truly a celebration of diversity, unity, and the rich cultural tapestry that defines our world.

The Grade 6 Team extends its heartfelt thanks to their students and their families for their enthusiastic participation and looks forward to continuing their journey of cultural exploration and celebration.

ITREB for Tanzania – Parental Engagement Program

Screening of the documentary ‘Soulful Sanctuaries’

To strengthen parental engagement and deepen understanding of our Jamati and other Muslim heritage and culture, ITREB for Tanzania organized an open-air screening of Soulful Sanctuaries, an educationally inspiring documentary developed by ITREB Canada. The program was organized at Upanga Jamatkhana premises on Friday 22nd November 2024 after Students’ Majalis. The event was specially curated for secondary learners and their parents as well as the wider Jamat, providing a unique opportunity to reflect on the cultural and spiritual significance of the diverse Muslim spaces of worship and gathering – including Jamatkhanas.

The documentary highlighted the architectural beauty and profound meaning embedded in these sanctuaries, offering glimpses into their role as spaces of prayer, learning, and community service. Soulful Sanctuaries inspired viewers to appreciate the balance between physical spaces and the spiritual ethos they represent. The audience were able to decode the documentary through a worksheet in their groups, which fostered collaborative learning and meaning making.

The event exemplified the commitment to holistic education and the nurturing of spiritual growth within families and our community. It highlighted how collective experiences can inspire deeper connections to our faith and heritage, ensuring the implementation of the ethics and values of our faith as guided and aspired by Mawlana Hazar Imam.

ITREB for Tanzania express their gratitude to ITREB Canada for their collaboration and support for this program.
