This year, the Health Board has worked hard to promote preventive health and support the well-being of their community, through the implementation of impactful initiatives designed to promote healthier lifestyles. Their Walking Challenge successfully motivated community members to incorporate regular physical activity into their routines, highlighting the importance of movement in preventing chronic diseases.
They organized Screening Camps in various regions across the country, to provide free check-ups, including blood pressure, blood sugar, and cholesterol screenings. These camps helped many people learn about their health and take steps to prevent serious conditions. The Health Board also partnered with Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam, to host a Comprehensive Screening Camp, with 180 participants, which included cancer screening. This initiative provided many individuals with vital health insights and connected them to follow-up care if required.
Supporting women’s health was another key focus. The Woman’s Activity Portfolio did an amazing job hosting a Breast Health Awareness Lecture with Dr. Chua (Medical Director and Head of Oncology, AKH) and Dr. Somji (PGME Director and Internist, AKU), teaching men and women how to check for early signs of breast cancer and encouraging regular self-examinations.
They also focused on community safety through First Aid Training. Participants learned essential life-saving skills, and they provided first aid kits to promote emergency readiness.
These initiatives, along with their partnerships, highlight the Health Board’s commitment to preventing illness, raising awareness, and building a healthier community.
