The Aga Khan Health Board for Eastern, Tanzania organized a Healthy Heart Fair for the Arusha and Moshi jamat on the weekend of 18th-20th November, 2016.
The aim of the fair was to screen the target jamat for cardiac risk factors as well as raise awareness on cardiac diseases and it’s appropriate prevention and treatment options.
A team of specialists from Aga khan Hospital, Dar es salaam joined hands with the local teams and conducted a weekend full of screening, health talks and discussions and enjoyed a range of healthy meals.
Jamati members identified to have high risk for heart disease were provided with a free ECG service as well as a consultations with the cardiologist.
Total of 73 jamati members were screened of which 50% were identified to have high risk factors for heart disease and are being followed up for appropriate care.
Overall the activity was an eye opener and the health board is hopeful that the jamat will work on changing their lifestyles to prevent further damage to their health.
